Today I testified against the Community Safety And Health Amendment Act Of 2019.The bill as proposed is ill conceived and has the potential for disastrous consequences for the District especially in neighborhoods like mine.

As introduced the bill decriminalizes prostitution if those involved are 18 years of age and older, procuring sex for yourself (johns) the arranging of sex between parties other than yourself (pimping) and protects the purchase or sale of sex at any residence (brothels). It requires the establishment of a task force to study and make recommendations regarding: the effects and unintended consequences of the Reducing Criminalization of Commercial Sex Amendment Act of 2019, additional changes to criminal penalties for commercial sex, and supports for individuals engaging in commercial sex in the District of Columbia. More information on the proposed bill can be found at https://lims.dccouncil.us/Legislation/B23-0318
